The monument stands in Martin Luther King Jr. Park on East Vine St. in downtown Oberlin. Directly across the street from the monument is the former home of Wilson Bruce Evans built in 1856. Evans was a prominent black leader in antebellum years. The home is a National HIstoric Landmark. (home is not open to the public and is still owned by descendants of Wilson Bruce Evans.) Evans is pictured on the monument.
