The Tourism Committee of the Lorain Growth Corporation is committed to improving the economics of the City of Lorain by developing a program that will attract tourists to the city. The committee believes that tourism is a powerful economic tool and that the city can greatly benefit economically by developing such a program. The committee is committed to develop events and attractions that will draw tourists to the city. The events currently in place are the Cabela’s Walleye Tournament, the Lorain International Festival, the Lorain Lighthouse Dinners, the Waterfront District Brewfest, the FireFish Festival, and the Lorain Waterfront Winterfest, which includes Santa’s Storyland and the Annual International Tree and Model Train Display. The attractions that may bring tourists to our community are the Lorain Lighthouse and tours of that facility, Lakeview Park and the Rose Garden located there, LoCo Yak Shak, and the ethnic churches located within the city. Water sports such as kayaking,canoeing, surfing, and other water activities such as boating and fishing are activities that can draw tourists to Lorain. The committee is hoping to increase their marketing of these events and attractions in 2018 and consider other events and attractions that might bring tourists to Lorain.
