Memorial Day Is On Its Way!

Memorial Day is coming up fast and Lorain County has plenty of activities available for guests of all ages. From heritage, art and history to live music and vineyard visits, the opportunities are endless!

The Wellington Heritage Festival will be taking place in Wellington from Saturday to Monday and is running in conjunction with the arrival of the Lincoln Funeral Train. The Leviathan #63 is leading the train on four runs each day! The festival will also feature live music from a selection of different artists. Make sure to stop in to The Spirit of 76 Museum during the weekend!

illumMemorial Day Weekend will have Oberlin buzzing with excitement, as it is also Commencement Weekend for Oberlin College. This year’s guest speaker is the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama! Commencement takes place at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 25 on Tappan Square, so keep in mind that increased security may cause traffic delays. But before all the fun of graduation starts, check out some of the other exciting things happening in Oberlin! Friday night, the Warner Concert Hall is hosting their annual Grand Piano Extravaganza. Allen Memorial Art Museum is featuring multiple exhibits from Friday to Sunday, ranging from Latino to early American art. If you’re more of a history buff, the Oberlin Heritage Center will be hosting a variety of tours throughout the day, Friday to Sunday as well. Don’t forget about Campus Illumination on Sunday night. Hundreds of Japanese lanterns will light Tappan Square and illuminate a night full of beautiful memories!

The first concert of the 2015 Rockin’ on the River Series is happening in Lorain on Friday the 22nd! Broken Road is performing with special guests Monica Robins and the Ninja Cowboys. Grab dinner with friends or bring the kids and have some family fun! Visit Lorain County will have a booth set up before the concert starts, so stop by to say hello or to pick up a discount coupon for Grudgefest in Elyria. It’s your chance for $8 off admission to the fast-paced event at Lorain County Speedway. Plenty to do and see (including us!), so get there early!

Elyria will have something for everyone! Friday night, Jonathan Kingham and Ryan Shea Smith are performing at the Stocker Arts Center. Saturday night presents a great opportunity for the speed demon in you! Grudgefest is being held at Lorain County Speedway and these 30 lap clashes are definitely ones you do not want to miss out on!

Make your way out to Avon to view the Fairy Gardens and Mini Landscapes presented at Miller Nature Preserve. The magic begins every morning at 10 and will be available the entire weekend, as well as on Monday. Bring the family along and enchant yourselves with these tiny worlds!

VValleyIf you would rather relax with a glass of wine, head out to Wakeman, Vermilion or Avon Lake! Paper Moon Vineyards is hosting a night of live music on Friday or Saturday evening.  Vermilion Valley Vineyards will have live music on Friday evening and will be hosting Mad Factory on Saturday night! Matus Winery is hosting a night of pizza and live music on Saturday, the 24th. For a quieter experience, take a visit to John Christ Winery or Klingshirn Winery and simply sip your favorite fine quality wine and enjoy the scenery each vineyard has to offer!
